everyone wants to be heard in this election.
a note shared here, a video linked there.
snide remarks on the opposite party you support, photo updates of the rallies.
when did election became such a hyped national concern?
amid all these voices and thoughts i just want to note down how i feel.
so that if i ever get a chance to vote, i will remember how i first get to know politics.
it's simple at first, the choice was clear.
because there didnt really seemed to have any other options, not any worthy ones at least.
since young, the environment taught us to be pro-white.
we learn to be thankful to our forefathers, to see how the country transformed and developed.
but apparently, the history we know was warped or rather censored.
which reminded me of how Japan regulate their history textbook too about the WWII story.
in a twisted way of thinking, we are actually like the people i saw in this North Korea's documentary 2 years back. of course not to that great an extent but similar idea.
i used to think that how could they be so stupid or blind, how could they be brainwashed till that extreme.
being so thankful to that very person who caused them to live in third world conditions when they could well be living in the first.
the solution then to me was simple, just expose them to the outside world, let them see, to be informed.
then make noise, rebel, go against the dictatorship.
but no, it wasnt that simple.
because you cant expect someone to change suddenly, especially when the world they believe they live in suddenly seems not so clear anymore. everything just toppled.
human are naturally resistant towards change.
and the greater the difference from their initial believes, the more defensive they become.
which leads me back to Singapore.
because of withheld info and restricted media, we are like them, quite the ignorant people.
my first contact with the opposition was in JC during GP lesson, the teacher was challenging us to think how come we have never heard of some opposition leaders who were just as experienced as the MM.
it was disturbing to have the peace you thought you had disrupted, when others challenge your belief.
and you know what, naturally i felt defensive, the picture of the opposition was already painted to be a bad one in my head. even before i ever even hear of them, see them, understand them.
the very first thing i did was to judge and formed a bad perception.
they were the bad guy.
and so i refused to hear them.
until social media causes a huge hooha in the local politics scene, then i started to know a whole loads of things i never knew, discovered the unsung hero.
politics is a complicated mind game, dirty tricks or not.
i believe that everyone can have their own preference.
but i just want to say that a lot of time, people are very judgmental and they make comments blindly.
and that kind of upsets me.
because i realise it's so damn easy to say, but tough to make one listens.
and that is the one thing i learn from GE2011.
i will be a fool if i see based on what others have seen, judge based on what people have judged, taking it as it is to what others have voiced.
